Any mods for a 1980 spitfire 1500?

I am going to be buying a 1980 Triumph
Spitfire soon and I am wondering of any relatively cheap mods to gain some HP? I would like to get it around the 150bhp mark if possible. Would I just be better off with an engine swap? If so are there any good options that fit well?

Defo try and swap the bumpers to British spec, they’re much less lumpy than the us ones. Must save a lot of weight too :-)

Personally i would lose the US bumpers and shed some weight first 😉.

I’d say engine swap for 150bhp, the most common one in the UK is a 2.0l Ford zetec, it would be possible to get those figures from a stock engine but you would need more money than to swap it

Get a camshaft and 2 webber carburettors.
However be carefull (i have a triumph spitfire 1500), it’s not a sports car. The chassi is twisting and it has a poor handling

That’s strange because I have heard mixed reviews. Some say it handles great and some say that it handles very poorly.. Are there any common mods to help the handling??

Put the straight six from a tr6, or the gt6 in. Even better you could use a 2.5pi unit. If you don’t care though, a rover v8 is plenty enough power but not that heavy.
