What engine oil do you use?

I’ve had two different e46’s and for both cars I’ve always used a Mobil 1 European Formula 0-40. Never had a problem with it but I feel like I should start using a synthetic 5-30 since my 330 has about 230k miles. Oil should last about 15k miles but I dare not let it be unchanged for that long. I change it every 5-7k miles. I’ve also been keen to add just a few drops of transmission fluid to the engine. The fluid acts like a detergent of sorts and aids with engine cleaning. Every now and then I use a little sea foam. The engine runs real smoothly. Cleaned icv, disa and throttle body. Also cleaned the maf and installed new oxy sensors (precat only) These engines will last a while if they’re taken care of.

Over here bmw recommend castrol edge 0w-30 or 5w-30.

But for higher millage cars you can go slightly thicker so i use 5w-40 castrol

I use Mannol 5w30 on my E46, and Mannol 10w60 on my Escort Cosworth and same on the Sierra. It’s really good oil, meets all the specifications to many manufacturers, including BMW, and it’s also cheaper than Castrol
