Saab and volvo engines are cheap, easily tunable and can take some punishment. A b204 or b234 from saab takes upwards of 400bhp unopened. Forged internals standard. The more modern b235 or b204 takes the same punishment if you put the older pistons machined down 1.1mm (make it shorter)
Volvo engines have loads of tuning recipes and parts. Especially if you can wait for parts from sweden.
