Turbo on 116i E87?

Hi everyone, I am thinking of fitting a turbo onto my 116i E87 in the near future. I know I can fit a turbo on one because I was speaking to a guy who builds cars and fixes them. Would anyone know what turbo or company would have a good turbo kit for my car, that wouldn’t blow up my engine from too much boost. Also has anyone else fitted a turbo on an e87 1.6L? Thanks in advance

Why, they said you can put a turbo on any car, there’s 1Litre cars with turbo and mines a 1.6

You could just get a 135i… 300hp 3 liter straight 6 with a turbo. It can be easily upgraded to 400whp too

Only 18, wouldn’t afford the insurance on one of them

Super late on this thread, So I ran into a similar issue with my 128 I originally was going to just add the turbos from a 135 and upgrade the intercooler the Ecu and any other turbo components I would need , when speaking to the guys from the performance shop I get everything done at ( and trust me these guys have experience and know there things ) they strongly did not recommend it. NA BMW motors are not built to take on the excess power from turbos best way to know is looking at redline differences , what they did recommend was adding a supercharger as those are made with purposely adjusting to the motor it’s being used for, however those go for $4,000USD so for 50 more hp I don’t think it’s worth it , there other thing they recommend was just getting a 135 engine swap which would run about $5,000USD in conclusion if power is really what you want save up and get a more performance oriented model in the future.

I have the exact same version as you do a 2007 116i with 115hp…. and i’m going to install a cold air intake and a full exhaust and then do a remap…. i’ll get between 140 and 150hp they said…. try to get anything more out of the engine and you will kill it

Yeh so I might do that then, what cold air intake would you suggest to get. I also got a straight pipe exhaust system. I will also be getting a rev limiter to get it to bounce off the limiter which also comes with launch control so that will be fun. How much faster would it be from 115hp to about 140hp?

Well the 118i has 143hp and does 0-100kmh in 8.8 seconds and goes 210kmh so it will be close to that…. and i yet have to take a look at which cold air intake i will install so idk yet

I know this was posted some time ago but I want to reply lol

This would be really nice, but if I was you I would go with a smallish turbo something like a T3 and since this motor is not built for boost max I would go is 6psi.

Not much but definitely an improvement.

Things you would need to consider is the following:

Bigger injectors
Intercooler
Turbo
Custom Turbo manifold
Dump valve
135i radiator maybe the 125i and 130i have the same size
oil cooler
ECU tune
adapt exhaust to turbo setup
Turbo related piping
might need to upgrade your fuel pump

Maybe look at getting your cams regrinded to a turbo spec so it can run better

my only concern is that your comp-ratio is high (12) and you could run into a problem of detonation. but you can send them to engeneering to drop the comp as they would shave them and maybe powdercoat them too so you dont run into any issues

Honestly it might be an expensive route to go, but it gets a bit boring with every always following the same path of modifying their cars.

I myself have a lexus v8 (1uz) swapped E87 even thou its not the fastest the unique factor and its fun to play with the low torque !
