KICKER VS JBL mid range speaker shootout tested in NC MX-5
Ok here’s the final verdict. Im sticking with the JBL GX series speaker. After heavy testing with different types of music at different EQ levels I can safely say the JBL handles bass much better than the Kicker KS, even though the KS has a wider frequency band and to my ears seem to have the crisper sound over a broader range of music, the GX seems to beat the bass from the KS by having a larger surface area on its cones. The surface area seems to distribute the bass more evenly and due to its smaller frequency range picking up bass at higher levels seems to be a key role in not over loading the hardware in the speakers. The JBL also seems to have the better build quality of the two. Now size and placement is a factor to be taken in when considering these two speakers if you have a more narrow door the KS might simply be the way to go due to its slimmer profile. Both speakers are competitively priced ranging from 70-$130 with that being said,, and all things considered choosing any of the two speakers won’t be based on the price and numbers but more on what your preference in sound is. If you want better highs KS if you want better handled lows with speakers that have id say the biggest cone in its price and class range JBL is the way to go. Either way you won’t be un happy upgrading your stock speakers to any of these middle class speakers.
