Underrated luxury: A blog about the Volkswagen Phaeton #blogpost

What if I told you that you can get a Bentley Continental for as little as $ 14,995? The Volkswagen Phaeton is a handcrafted luxury car at a pretty cheap price as used. However, it did not sell well due to it’s A8, 7-Series and S- Class rivals, and buyers seemed to overlook the Phaeton. And later Volkswagen decided to stop production of the Phaeton flagship which wasn’t long ago. The Phaeton (Type 3D) was offered with five petrol engines (V6 to W12) and four diesels (V6 TDI to V10 TDI) but the V10 TDI was dropped in 2006 four years after the introduction because the emissions were to high. Since 2009 V10 TDI owners had to install a diesel particulate filter to reduce the emissions. Note: The concept car (Concept D) was first introduced at Frankfurt Motorshow 1999

IMO, the A8 looks better, but there is some kind of a vibe around the Phaeton.Maybe it’s because I’m more of a VW guy, but I prefer the Phaeton over the A8.

It was always a bit bland in my opinion. An overly luxurious vw never felt right to me.
Nice writing though!

I like it, but it was a bit out of proportions in my opinion, and it didnt look that great from the in-and outside but if it would have been more thoroughly updated it would have been less of a cheaper alternative to an A8

The problem I’ve had with the Phaeton in particular is the fact that they never updated anything at all over the time that they made it. So buy one now, and you will buy the same car a few years ago.

It also shares the design of the keys with the Bentley Continental, or at least those were the keys in the Phaeton that my mum used to own
