Bagged E89 Z4 (First Post)
So i thought i would make my first post about my recent car. I say recent as i sold it about a month ago and currently saving for a new car (which I still have no clue what to get). Starting with myself, I’m 22 and from Kingswinford, a small town near Wolverhampton. I work as an engineer for JLR and I have always loved cars and also modifying cars.
My first car was a 56 plate Vauxhall Corsa C, awful stigma I know, but it was a cheap first car that I had a lot of fun with. I bought it as a Cat D write-off, fixed it up and then added my own couple of bits too it, my aim was to get as fair from the chavy nature and stereotype of the car as possible however looking back, that’s probably impossible.
Right, on to the second car I owned. After starting at JLR when I was 18 I went to look at a Mini John Cooper Works GP edition and came home with an order for a brand new E89 Z4 from BMW. A couple months later in March 2014 I received my Z4 and I was over the moon. It was the 28i Sdrive M sport with the manual gearbox, in the pearlescent mineral white with contrasting red leather interior. The only options I had on it were the pop up navigation system, heated seats and the upgraded speakers.
Funnily enough just after collecting it I put a deposit down on the BMW M2 which was due to arrive 2 years later in 2016. But at the time I was happy with my new purchase, it was different from the average Audi TT that people tended to buy and I loved the looks of it. In my opinion it was a great car to drive, I never had any issues with it and I had a lot of fun whilst being sat almost on the rear wheels and having such a long bonnet. It was like driving a go kart on the road due to its small size and punchy power with the 2 litre twin scroll turbo.
Fast forward to 2016, loads of mileage done due to work but the car was in immaculate condition. The M2 was in its stages of finalisation with the dealer and I was choosing the specification for it. Very last minute I decided that the car was too much money for what I could afford at the current time and decided to pass it on (which now with the announcement of the CS version, I am glad, I also swapped the deposit onto the M2 CS ;)) So to fill the boredom which I had and disappointment at the time for not getting arguably the most anticipated BMW of the last decade, I decided to try airride for the first time on my Z4.
Now trying to find a company that would do it was impossible, there were only 2 others on airride that I could find in the world and both of those were in America and the one told me that the struts used were not specifically made for the Z4. Eventually I came across Plush Automotive near Leicester and they got all the kit together and had the struts specially made over in Austria with HP Drivetech and Bilstein. So the airride alongside some Rohana wheels came together to this…
Obviously at the same time I bought some smaller bits like all round silver and white badges, custom front splitter, gloss black grills and a short antenna. I was now finished, it went to a couple shows and I loved it.
There is a lot of stigma around airride and how it handles but it was unbelievable, much better than the stock suspension and the practicality of it was superb. It handled significantly better and the amount of looks it got was ridiculous, good or bad, you tell me haha.
In my eyes it was stunning, the body style matched the dropped look perfectly and I would always come out to see it with people looking around it or taking pictures as though I had bought some expensive supercar.
Come start of 2017 I decided to sell the car and it soon did to a chap down in London. Now I am saving for a new car and still keep changing my mind on what to get, it has ranged from E92 M3, M4, Jaguar XKRS, 2008 Audi R8, RS4, Mercedes C63 AMG, the list goes on and on but my deposit is still down on the M2 CS so depending on the pricing when it arrives, that might be likely. In the mean time I am borrowing a 2016 Ford Ranger Wildtrak which is great fun, also quite funny next to my old Z4.
Thanks for reading, anyone has any questions or suggestions then just say. I tend to be on here daily on my lunch breaks anyway.
