Tyler Hoover's Broken McLaren Had $150k Of Warranty Work In Two Years

Hoover estimates that his stricken 12C has been in for $150,000 or repairs under warranty in only two years

Tyler Hoover continues to astound and concern us with his used car purchases. Just when we thought his hooptie madness had peaked, he spent $100,000 on a McLaren 12C. Which is broken.

After its transmission started making grinding noises, it stopped shifting completely. Thankfully, though, the car does have a warranty. The former owner certainly seems to have got his money’s worth, as the claims under the policy add up to an absurd amount of money.

In the last two years, Hoover reckons the car’s had around $150,000 of work done. A large part of that came from a new engine and then a gearbox replacement (yep, the broken gearbox hasn’t even been in the car that long), weighing in an estimated $70,000 and $30,000 respectively. The weirdest piece of work done involved the headlight and windscreen washers, which - bizarrely - were wired the wrong way around.

Check out the video for the full list of what was replaced…

British cars were never known for their reliability.
Style - yeah, most look cool.
Quality - nope.
