Using a wheel transforms the experience of any racing sim, but if you really want to get immersed then you’re going to need to accessorise. Whether it’s with something as simple as an H-pattern shifter or as niche as a big wooden wheel for driving historics, it can turn into an addictive (yet expensive) hobby.

Thrustmaster won’t be helping matters with the latest addition to its range of accessories with this, the TSS Handbrake Sparco Mod. At £239.99 it ain’t cheap, but I’ll be damned if I don’t desperately want one.

What makes it especially cool is its adaptability. When being used as a handbrake for rallying or drifting you can adjust the angle to be more like a regular handbrake or vertical lever (depending on your preference) but best of all, it also has a mode where it can be used as a sequential shifter. Paddles have all but killed off the old-school sequential shifter, which is a shame because there’s something satisfying about eagerly pulling up the gears or aggressively banging down the ‘box.

As it’s been made in conjunction with Sparco the handle is an exact scale replica of the ones found on the real-world Sparco gear. It’s made from more than 90 per cent metal according to Thrustmaster, so you just know it’s going to have a satisfying, solid feel to it.

It’s available now for use on PC - it won’t work on consoles, unfortunately, but it is compatible with any of Thrustmaster’s existing wheels.
