This WRC Driver Had A Head-On Collision With A Truck During A Rally Recce

This is the shocking scene from Rally Australia yesterday, after WRC racer Mads Ostberg had a head-on collision with a logging truck on the course. Ostberg was on a recce with his co-driver Jonas Andersson, and was driving the course at speed making pace notes for the event.

The course is supposed to be closed, but it appears the driver of this logging truck was not aware of the closure as they were taking their normal route to work when they came face to face with the Mitsubishi Evo of Ostberg and Andersson. With nowhere to go, a head-on collision was inevitable, however despite the Evo’s front end being demolished, its occupants escaped with minor injuries.

Unfortunately, despite only suffering bruised ribs in the incident, Ostberg and Andersson have decided to pull out of the rally after today’s recce proved too painful for them.

The Citroen Total Abu Dhabi WRT driver is currently sitting fourth in the drivers’ championship.
