This Lamborghini Murcielago Is A Sort Of Affordable Alternative To The New Aventador SV Roadster

Picture this unlikely scenario: you’re rather well off, but not stinking rich. You clocked Lamborghini’s new Aventador SV Roadster making itself known to the world at the weekend, but find the £350,000 price tag a little hard to stomach. What do you do to sort out such a first-world conundrum? Get to the classifieds, that’s what. And when it comes to lairy roof-less Lamborghinis on the used market, we’d go for the Aventador’s predecessor: the Murcielago.

While there was such a thing as a Murcielago SV, the ladies and gents at Santa Agata Bolognese never hacked the roof off that particular bull, so we’re looking at the roadster version of the standard coupe. Still, you won’t be wanting for madness, with a 6.5-litre V12 in the LP640 version serving up 631bhp (640PS, hence the name) at a very shouty 8000rpm. And of course, with no roof to get in the way, your ears will be stuffed full of glorious 12-pot noise at every stab of the throttle.

0-60mph is done and dusted in 3.4 seconds, and at the top end, it’s good for 205mph. Oh, and if you get one finished in black like this 2007 example, you end up with one brilliantly scary looking car.

As you’d have probably gathered from my opening gambit, this still ain’t cheap. You’ll need £129,995 to secure this one, and a very healthy bank balance to keep a V12 Italian thoroughbred going. Worth it if you have the reddies available? Hell yes, we think. The Murcielago is one of the most jaw-droppingly pretty cars Lamborghini has ever built, and is arguably a cooler car than the Aventador.
