This Is Probably The Best Interpretation Of The New Toyota Supra Yet

Using insider information, the team at Jalopnik have put together this render which gives us probably our best glimpse of the new Supra we've yet seen

We probably won’t see the much anticipated Toyota Supra successor until late next year, so right now, we’ll take anything that’ll give us some idea of how it’ll look. Be it spy shots and videos, speculative illustrations or optimistic daydreams about the FT-1 concept, we’re desperate for an early glimpse of this car. Now, we can get what’s probably our closest look at the car yet, thanks to this render produced by Jalopnik.

Using an insider source, the publication was able to get a good idea of what’s lurking under the camouflage of the test mule. Some “artistic license” was employed for details like the headlights and wheels, but to us it looks pretty realistic compared to some of the more outlandish speculative renders we’ve seen.

As a reminder, Toyota is developing this new sports car - expected to revive the Supra name - with BMW. The Bavarian end of the deal will result in a Z4 successor, expected to be named Z5.

Judging by spy footage, both cars will be powered by six-cylinder, hybrid powertrains.

It looks good, but I wish It was a bit more like the ft-1 concept.

due to the gentlemans agreement, the japanese manufacturers are only allowed to put 280hp in their cars. Some of the cars, like the R32 GTR had 280hp, but to the wheels, not on the clutch. At the clutch it has around 320-330hp. Maybe it is the same for the Supra

“The new Supra was completely redesigned, with rounded body styling and featured two new engines: a naturally aspirated Toyota 2JZ-GE producing 220 hp (164 kW; 223 PS) at 5800 rpm and 210 lb·ft (280 N·m) at 4800 rpm of torque and a twin turbocharged Toyota 2JZ-GTE making 276 hp (206 kW; 280 PS) and 318 lb·ft (431 N·m) of torque for the Japanese version. The styling, while modern, does seem to borrow some elements from Toyota’s first grand touring sports car, the Toyota 2000GT. For the export model (America/Europe) Toyota upgraded the Supra turbo’s engine (smaller, steel wheeled turbochargers, bigger fuel injectors, etc.). This increased the power output to 320 hp (239 kW; 324 PS) at 5600 rpm and 315 lb·ft (427 N·m) at 4000 rpm.”

I am more worried about the back. That prototype single circle-like tailights are more than hideous
