This E92 M3 Has Been Given A Corvette Z06 V8 And We're Not Even Mad

A General Motors LT4 supercharged V8 now lives under the bonnet of this previous-generation M3, giving it 650bhp to play with

If you want a significant boost in power from your E9x-generation M3, you have to accept it’s going to be an expensive journey. Why? Because realistically, it’s going to involve a turbo or supercharger kit.

Or alternatively, if you’re particularly unhinged, there’s always the option of binning the original 4.0-litre S65 N/A V8 and dropping in a different engine that’s already supercharged. Like a General Motors LT4.

Sounds mad, but someone’s actually done it. Craig of Birmingham-based Dyno Torque did actually have a supercharger on his M3, but he wasn’t a fan of the power delivery. So, he went about installing same kind of 6.2-litre engine found in the C7 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Camaro ZL1 and Cadillac CTS-V. It’s also available as a crate engine, making sourcing one for this build much easier.

The engine is still stock at present, but with 650bhp and 650lb ft of torque on offer, it’s not exactly lacking in the firepower department.

What do you think of this curious engine swap, CTzens? Is powering one of Bavaria’s finest with some American muscle sacrilege of the highest order, or spectacularly awesome? Let us know in the comments!

You’re not wrong…Like, I know LS motors are cool and all, However I like them on Corvettes and Camaros. Before anyone goes off on me, I also respect people that are looking for a hella fun project car and hence they swap a car’s engine for an LS engine (EX: Miata, GT86, etc.). I’m not saying that a Miata/GT86 is soulless or anything, rather that they just need more power, which I wouldn’t be mad in that case, but swapping a GM V8/LS in a car full of character such as this E92 M3 or any other fun and sexy and unique sounding car, that’s where it would be a different story…and there are other engines such as 2jz, Hayabusa, etc. to swap in for a small project car.

Bah. It’s not a friggin I6 or something. It’s a V8. Similar heart. Plus, the LT4 is better in pretty much every way. Furthermore, it’s not the same as a Corvette. A Corvette is essentially a more muscular S2000. E92s (even with LTs) are totally different. It’s moronic to say “Just get a Corvette”. Different strokes for different folks.

No more rod bearing failures, half the service costs and an engine that can put out 700 bhp effortlessly. Oh no, they ruined it by making it better!
