Things Have Gotten Smashy Between LMP2 And GT Cars At Le Mans

The first quarter of the Le Mans 24 Hours has been littered with numerous shunts and crashes between the the LMP2 and GT classes

Despite the huge difference in speeds between LMP2 and GT cars, the two classes seem to be drawn to each other at Le Mans for some reason.

In the second hour of the race, the No.88 Proton Competition Porsche got wiped out of the race by the No.26 G-Drive LMP2 car, which pitched both into the wall and out of the race…

Then, at the start of the fourth hour, the No.43 Keating Motorsports LMP2 beast clashed while trying to lap the No.91 Porsche and dramatically destroyed a load of advertising boards.

That all led to the biggest crash of the lot with 19 hours of 24 remaining, when Pierre Kaffer’s No.82 Ferrari was innocently barged into the wall.

It was a heavy impact, with the No.28 TDS Racing LMP2 seemingly deciding to ignore the fact the Ferrari was there and move across before it had even got ahead of the GTE Pro car.

Also, check out how close those marshals got to that massive shunt too!

Let’s hope things between the LMP2 and GT cars are little more amicable during the rest of the race…

A 911 gets wiped out of the race, a 919 loses its front axle drive, and the number-one 919 is currently in third place.
Today is not the most smashing day for Porsche.

It hasn’t been a smashing year for Porsche. More than 12 Porsches crashed at Nurburgring in the ADAC 24 hour race. 😂

Not as bad as a few years ago when within the first 4 hours all porsche gt3s had blown their transmissions

What I wondered:
If you have a crash like that Ferrari did, and it’s decided that the other car was at fault, can you hope to get part of the damage cost paid, or do you still have to pay it all yourself?
Because that looked like a driver error by the Prototype that wiped out the Ferrari.

Their insurance covers it, it doesn’t work like road cars

That’s the beauty of it, the slower traffic.

Since the Toyota’s are all out of contention, I’m hoping for an overall LMP2 win at this point. At least it would be more exciting than yet another win for Porsche.
