There Probably Won't Be Any New Forza Games Next Year

Developer Turn 10 has suggested that the series will take a year off to focus on improving Forza Motorsport 7

Since 2011 we’ve been treated to a new Forza game every year, with the Turn 10-developed Forza Motorsport titles cropping up in odd-numbered years while Playground Games’ Forza Horizon games are released in even-numbered years.

That schedule suggests that Forza Motorsport 8 would be dropping sometime in 2019, but recent comments from Turn 10 creative director, Chris Esaki, hints that won’t be the case. Speaking on the recent Forza livestream, Esaki said the team has been “given this great gift of time” develop and perfect what’s already there.

Esaki also specifically mentioned a desire for the series to have a greater focus on motorsport, saying:

“There are other games that don’t have motorsport in the name which are a little more motorsport-y than we are and the team really takes that to heart. We are a motorsport team, we love racing. So when I say the ‘Forza fundamentals’, I really mean the ‘motorsport fundamentals’.”

Games like Gran Turismo Sport, Project Cars 2 and the upcoming Assetto Corsa Competizione have all eschewed massive car lists filled with stuff you’ll never drive in favour of a more focused racing experience. In that sense, FM7 is a little bit old school.

With Microsoft reportedly working on a next-generation console, chances are Turn 10 is taking the opportunity to develop Forza Motorsport 8 as a launch title for that console, perhaps taking a similar direction to that of its rivals.

In the meantime, we’ll have to continue enjoying FM7 and the really rather excellent Forza Horizon 4 - the fastest selling Horizon game so far - because it could be a couple of years before either get a replacement.

Maybe I’m old school too, but I like the idea of getting a car, making tweaks, getting faster and moving to new faster races with it, changing the set up etc, over having an endless list of race cars ready to go for each race!

Maybe I’m too young but I find every sports car/supercar/racecar made in 2018 perfect and modifying it to me feels like sh!ting over engineers work.

But everyone has their cup if tea.

You got my upvote.. I miss that too. starting with an old beater, fixing it, improving it and racing and racing and racing it to buy the next and the next until you have 1000+ cars

This is exactly what I hate about the new Forza games. I still buy them because I get entertainment out of it, but it just isn’t the same. I love modding my starter car into oblivion and race all attainable classes with it.

I hope this means more class-based racing

Does this mean that maybe they’ll make a immersive racing game next time instead of Forza Horizon 4: Only a Story for about Six Hours!

Is the game worth my money? If story is anything under 30 hours I won’t buy it. I completed the demo in an hour.

GTA V released 5 years after the IV. GTA VI will probably be released in 5 years, 10 years after the V. And yet GTA is one of the best series on the planet.

Plus you can replay the FH4 for years, but you won’t because FH5 will cut into it two years later.

PLUS you are wrong about the next gen console. They won’t launch earlier than 2021/2022 (the latter is more possible). The One X was released last year and to get a significant power increase you would have to make the CPU and GPU on 7nm process, and that won’t be ready by AMD until 2020, to get it inside a console you need atleast a year or two of development, and I doubt we won’t get Forza for two/three years.

Can’t wait for the VI

I’m expecting some sort of announcement for it in 2019/20 with a release in 2021/22

Not to mention the fact that the consoles generally lose manufacturers money, they make it back in games and licensing for games, so they’re going to want to stretch each console as long as they possibly can.

That’s actually a good idea, it actually gives me time to play FH4 before the next game comes out and the hype for the outgoing game dies.

It’s about time!
I was extremely disappointed in FM7, I gave up playing it. It was in my opinion a cheesy arcade racing game. There wasn’t even a test & tune option.
I liked the separation of FH and FM. Horizon was more fun and light hearted version of FM, FM7 felt like too much of the silliness of Horizon had taken over.
I remember buying FM2 on the Xbox 360 and I read how detailed the developers were in regards to psychics and realism. It felt the closest to a sim that the console could provide at the time. They even set up jigs to record turbos and transmissions without the engine sound.
If you modified the exhaust the sound of the car would change.
I want that again and keep horizon as the fun Forza.

This is good, FM7 had a bunch of bugs that needed to be worked out, they just need to get their mind straight and make the best racing game in history
