The Polestar 1 electric grand tourer will not be coming to the UK yet. The car’s launch markets have just been revealed, and Britain is not on the list.

The 592bhp 2+2 powerhouse will first be sold in the USA, China, Germany, Sweden, Norway and the Netherlands. Be in no doubt that those European countries are offering serious tax advantages or other financial incentives on electric cars; hence the high demand.

Polestar, now a sister manufacturer to Volvo and Geely, says that the choice of countries is down to the amount of demand, which it defines in terms of formal expressions of interest. Holding deposits may or may not have been placed.

The actual purchasing model will have no deposit. It’s based on one single (large) monthly payment that covers usage, depreciation, collection and delivery for the included servicing, plus access to various on-demand perks.

A decision on whether and when the Polestar 1 will come to the UK will be taken when there’s a sufficient build-up of interest or they decide the UK simply isn’t bothered enough. Production isn’t scheduled to start until mid-2019 anyway, so there’s plenty of time.

Why do I have the feeling that I won’t ever see a single one here in Germany?

Ich auch… But why? Umm, it’s a pretty high performance car, a supercar, dare I say… So, you don’t see supercars of this caliber TOO often… At least in my town…

I know they have pollution problems but this car is for rich people and the average consumer can’t easily purchase a electric vehicle

Yes , they’ll sell it in America, but with Americans falling in love with things like the Viper ACR and new ZR1, I can’t see this being terribly popular… I still love it, though.
