The One Millionth Porsche 911 Is Going To Be Used Properly

Rather than confining the milestone 911 to a museum from its first day, Porsche is sending the millionth 911 on a world tour first
The One Millionth Porsche 911 Is Going To Be Used Properly

You’re looking at the 1,000,000th Porsche 911 ever to leave the production line. This is the milestone at the end of 54 years, seven generations and more than 300 books written on the subject.

And there’s good news, because this car really will turn its wheels in anger. Before it goes home to the Porsche museum forever, it’s due to make a world tour, passing the Nurburgring on its way to destinations including the Scottish Highlands, the USA and China. It’s not going to be a zero-mile trinket, and for that we say well done, Porsche.

The One Millionth Porsche 911 Is Going To Be Used Properly

The millionth 911 is a Carrera S commissioned by Porsche itself specifically for display at the museum. Of course, it has a few bespoke upgrades like a ‘1,000,000’ logo that pops up in various places inside and out, plus a pepita-patterned upholstery just like that of the original. A part-wood steering wheel is another nod to the classic 911. Both the wheel and the bonnet feature the 1964 version of the Porsche crest.

Then there are the alloy wheels, designed to mimic the ones found on early 911s. It looks a little lost without a front number plate, but that will no doubt be sorted soon. One more heritage nod is the silver surround given to the main instrument dials.

The gorgeous colour is ‘Irish Green’; another nod to the past in referencing Ferdinand Porsche’s designer son, Ferry, whose first official 911 was apparently painted green. Elsewhere, performance has been tweaked. The 3.0-litre turbocharged flat-six has been tuned to 445bhp, which drops the 0-62mph sprint time to 4.1 seconds and should be good for 194mph.

Agreed. Wood steering wheel, Houndstooth cloth seats, gold emblems and Irish green makes for a special retro feeling 911. Beautiful car, well done Porsche!

They forgot the wood gear lever, add that and you have a winner!

Not a bad option, though the color doesn’t suit that body style.

That interior is fantastic! Wood might be an odd choice in a sports car nowadays, but it’s breath of fresh air compared to all the carbon fiber hype.

agreed. CF looks tacky now imagine in 25 years. Metal and wood are timeless and modern.

When I thought as well but that’s not possible. With an average speed of 100kph driving for 10 hours a day it’ll take 3 years.

Pagani already did that with the Zonda Cinque. Will be great to see another car being driven to the million kilometer mark :)

Although it’s a bit weird that the dash-insert is (seemingly) darker than the wheel’s wood.
