The Next Porsche 911's Shapely Rear Has Been Leaked

An image showing the rear-end of the '992'-generation 911 has appeared online
The Next Porsche 911's Shapely Rear Has Been Leaked

Here it is: the next-generation Porsche 911, partially revealed thanks to the leaked image above. It was posted on Instagram before being removed (but not before spreading its way around the Internet), and no, it doesn’t show a radical departure in the styling department. That’s broadly in line with our expectations, but take a closer look, and the changes are there.

First off, there’s now a full-width active spoiler. We’ve already seen this on the test mules that have been hammering around the Nurburgring, and they give the rear of the ‘992’-generation car a 959-esque look. We’re rather digging it.

The slatted rear deck of the 991.2 (pictured below for comparison) remains, but it’s been reshaped and enlarged. The light clusters don’t taper at the ends quite as much, and underneath, you’ll see that the lower section of the bumper has been restyled and - on this particular 911 at least - has a cool two-tone effect going on.

Finally, sitting below a full-width brake light, here’s the ‘Porsche’ script, which takes on a ‘floating’ style as first seen on the 718 Boxster and Cayman.

There hasn’t been any technical information leaked thus far, but we do know that this will be the first 911 available with a hybrid powertrain. The current range of 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-six engines will be carried over, and it had been reported that the final naturally-aspirated models - the GT3 and GT3 RS - will go the same forced-induction route also. Porsche’s motorsport boss has since denied this, so right now it’s hard to tell which way it’s going to go.

For now, what do you think of the new 911’s rear? Comment below with your thoughts.

The back looks waaaaay to similar to the Panamera and Cayenne. I hoped Porsche would ignore the current all-cars-looking-the-same shit.

Now in before the kid that says ‘all Porsches look the same anyways’

Sounds like you just “auto-correct” your statement.
I am not a fan of Porsche, but I do admire their engineering and give them credits for still stubbornly making real sport cars.
They make money on their signature design, and one of many reasons people buy it is it will always look like a Porsche no matter what year.
Think about it, you gotta give them credit for being able to make new car look new/modern, keeping up with the trends while still looking like every other Porsche. That’s a hard task….

All Porsches look similar, anyways. Ha, loophole abuse.

FOR GOD’S SAKE I HATE THESE BLOODY LEAKS. I DON’T WANT TO SEE THE CAR BEFORE IT’S OFFICIALLY REVEALED, IT’S SUPER IRRITATING.

Very consistent with the test mule! It’s gotta be real, remember the 2nd gen R8? That was leaked in a very similar way.

Nope, i dislike it in every way, just compare that rear end with the 991.2 below it. This middle light bar trend is annoying as hell.

There’s no license plate or badges yet.

Same feeling, but:
a) it’s a crappy photo from a weird angle
b) there isn’t a numberplate or any badges
c) yellow with black combo don’t help either
d) doubt it’s a production look as well - the mules had a few more air vents and covered areas, so hopefully won’t look as empty
