The New Rolls-Royce Dawn Might Give You "An Erotic Tingle"

Rolls-Royce has revealed its new Wraith-based drop-top called Dawn - a name which the company has gone to extreme lengths to explain...

Think the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead is a little too big and expensive? Well, it seems that the chaps in Goodwood have your back, as they’ve decided to lop the roof off the Wraith, creating this rather swanky convertible. However, rather than calling it a Wraith Drophead, Rolls-Royce has given it an entirely new name: Dawn. Why? Well, according to Rolls chief exec Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes:

"The name ‘Dawn’ perfectly suggests the fresh opportunities that every new day holds – an awakening, an opening up of one’s senses and a burst of sunshine. In its tentative, inchoate, anticipatory state, dawn is the world coming to light from the ethereal dark of the night. The early-day chill of dawn provides an erotic tingle on the skin, awakening the senses and passions as the day begins."

Erm, quite.

It’s also described as the "sexiest Rolls-Royce ever built" - but we’ll let you decide that one for yourself. So, other than good looks (we have to admit, it is a rather handsome devil), what do you get for the expected £250,000+ price tag? Perhaps, most significantly, four proper seats - Rolls-Royce insists this isn’t a 2+2, as it considers such things "anti-social".

Powering this four-seat display of opulence is a 6.6-litre V12, good for 563bhp. That’s enough to whisk the 2560kg Dawn from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds, and on to a top speed of 155mph.

Do the clouds above look a little threatening? Worry not, as the Dawn’s fabric roof is able to go back up in 22 seconds at speeds of up to 31mph, and it apparently operates in "almost complete silence". Speaking of silence, the Dawn is as quiet as the tin top Wraith when its roof is up. The whole electric roof shebang and the way it operates is referred to as "The Silent Ballet". Because of course it is.

Want one? Expect it to go on sale next year.
