The New Porsche Panamera Turbo S Sport Turismo Redefines The Term 'All-Rounder'

Porsche has built a ‘Sport Turismo’ version of the 671bhp Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, and it ticks just about every box we can think of
The New Porsche Panamera Turbo S Sport Turismo Redefines The Term 'All-Rounder'

In an increasingly SUV-filled world, the wagon needs to be celebrated. And one of our favourites right now is the Panamera Sport Turismo - most Porsches sold are now SUVs, so the fact Stuttgart bothered making it at all fills us with joy. To compound our happiness further, an even faster version has just arrived.

Yep, the 671bhp, 627lb ft V8/electric guts of the plug-in Turbo S E-Hybrid have found their way into the Sport Turismo, resulting in what must be one of the longest names ever given to a Porsche. It’s the (deep breath) Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Turbo S E-Hybrid.

Not what you’d call catchy, but who cares: this thing pretty much redefines the term ‘all-rounder’. For starters, it’s shockingly fast, dispatching 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds and topping out at 192mph. Thanks to its all-wheel drive system it’ll be that fast in most conditions, and even with the battery taking up 95 litres of boot space, there’s still 425 litres to play with, and considerably more if you drop the rear seats down.

In its snout you’ll find the same 542bhp, 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 as used in the Turbo, only here, it’s supplemented by a 134bhp electric motor. It’s able to travel up to 30 miles on electricity alone, so if your commute isn’t massive, you could pootle to work in near silence all week, saving your fuel for an almighty V8-powered thrash at the weekend. See what I mean about the ‘all-rounder’ thing?

It also has the clever active boot spoiler seen on the rest of the Sport Turismo range. It sits in a ‘performance position’ of plus one degree at speeds of over 106mph, helping stability and “lateral dynamics”. Turn on Sport or Sport Plus mode and that drops to 56mph. Or if you’ve opened the sunroof, it’ll tilt to plus 26 degrees to cut down wind noise. Neat.

Like the sound of all that? The car’s on sale now at £140,868, before options.

The biggest box for me, one that it does not tick, is a manual transmission

if you think about it with the smallest amount of rationale, it’s pretty easy to see why it doesn’t have a manual….

If you want a manual Porsche, get the new GT3
