The New-Ish Range Rover Line-Up Includes A 557bhp Monster

Land Rover has nipped and tucked the Range Rover, cooking up a more powerful headline model and installing new interior tech

Last week saw the reveal of the updated Range Rover Sport, but if you like your Rangies to be of the ‘proper’, full fat variety, here’s something you may appreciate.

It’s the updated Range Rover line-up, now headed by an SVAutobiography Dynamic model that’s even more powerful than the last one. An extra 15bhp has been squeezed from its 5.0-litre supercharged V8, making 0-60mph possible in 5.1 seconds. Not bad for a vehicle that’s best described as ‘vast’.

For those wanting a vehicle that doesn’t batter Mother Nature into submission with every application of the throttle, the Range Rover can now be specced - as with the updated Sport - in plug-in hybrid form.

It’s the same powertain as used in the Sport PHEV, marrying Jaguar Land Rover’s most powerful ‘Ingenium’ 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine with an 85kW electric motor, giving a total system output of 398bhp. It’s charged via a socket neatly hidden behind the front grille, and can run on electric power alone for up to 31 miles.

All models feature new LED headlight clusters, while the SVAutobiography has been given a snazzy new “Graphite Atlas” mesh grille. Arguably the most important change is on the inside, however. Here, you’ll find JLR’s Touch Pro Duo infotainment system, made up two HD 10-inch touchscreens. We’ve tried it in the Range Rover Velar, and it’s really rather good.

The updated vehicles are available to order now, starting at £79,595 for a TDV6 Vogue all the way up to £177,030 for the long wheelbase version of the SV Autobiography Dynamic. The hybrid meanwhile is priced from £86,700 to £105,700, depending on trim level.

Land Rover has learned from Porsche the art of releasing models that are new, yet not new in any way.
