The New Audi TT RS Is Here, But It's Damn Expensive

Audi has revealed the price of its most powerful TT ever, but at almost £52,000, it's more expensive than a Porsche 718 Cayman S by a fair margin
The New Audi TT RS Is Here, But It's Damn Expensive

Audi has continued its love for the legendary five-cylinder engine with the new TT RS - a 395bhp beast that could offer a budget option to bridge the gap between the R8 and TT S.

Completing 0-62mph in just 3.7 seconds, the RS could be one of the greatest bang-for-your-buck road cars on sale today. The new car is 26kg lighter than the previous TT RS, and has a top speed of 174mph.

The New Audi TT RS Is Here, But It's Damn Expensive

These stats all sound great, but they come at a price. The TT RS comes in at £51,800 (or £53,550 for the Roadster), making it a chunk more expensive than its main rival - the 350bhp Porsche 718 Cayman S. The Cayman is priced at £48,834, making life very hard for Audi’s ultimate sports car.

Saying that, the Audi is much quicker than the Porsche, delivering truly supercar-esque acceleration in either coupe or convertible form. So, would you pay that bit extra for the five-cylinder howl, or take the safe option with the four-cylinder boxer Porsche? Comment below!

They have gone full Mazda MX-5 and stripped away anything feminine about it.

I’m not sure I like that. In fact, I don’t like that. Not every sports car has to be a masculine angry, frowny, grrrrr looking animal.

There’s nothing wrong with feminine. I like feminine. I like it so much I married feminine.

I didn’t marry a car though.

That would be weird.

You know what I mean.

Given the demeaning and sexist stereotypes given to feminine cars I wish a company would build something with curves and cuteness, with it’s base model knocking at the door of 500bhp… so people that like those kind of cars could give the middle finger to the macho nonsense surrounding car culture as they leave most of it behind at the traffic lights.

You are right. That’s why the alfas 8c and 4c are so beautifull. They have “femenine” lines. There should be more cars like that

But the old TTRS was never a feminine looking car though. It had wide arches and a big spoiler.

45hp and 1 cylinder more than the Porsche for £3,000? I would take the TT RS (If I had the money)

But you’ll have an Audi with looks that don’t differ very much from the base model, so it’s nothing special really…
I’d personally take the Porsche 718 Boxster :)

That has always been my problem with the TT. Maybe it is just because I live in the US where there are some good performance cars for relatively cheap, but the TT seems like you don’t get a lot for your money. The base TT is $43,000 which could buy you V8 mustang or camaro with $10,000 in options. The TTS is $52,500 a couple grand shy of the Shelby GT350. I know it is supposed to have more luxury, but in a car that is fairly impractical it most likely won’t be your only car, so who cares

I own a TTS 8J which is fine as a sporty car but if I had TTRS money I’d most likely spend it on a Porsche

I’m sorry when you consider performance this is astonishing value for money, less than 5 years ago supercars had this sort of pace, and at this price point £3k isn’t even that much.
