If you like the idea of a Ducati Panigale V4 stripped of its fairings, you’re in luck: Ducati is using the bike as the basis for an all-new ‘naked’ Streetfighter model.

Details are currently fairly thin on the ground, with the bike revealed in prototype form only with a pixellated livery. But we do know that it’ll use the same 1103cc V4 engine as its superbike relative, which means the Streetfighter could have as much as 211bhp on tap. Oh yes.

While ditching the fairings, Ducati has also fitted higher handlebars, giving a more relaxed riding position. It looks to have sprouted various new aerodynamic devices, too.

The Pikes Peak International Hillclimb - starting on 30 June - will be used as a proving ground for the Streetfighter V4. Ducati will be sending Carlin Dunne up the demanding 14-mile course. As the first rider to dip below the 10-minute mark and the holder of the electric bike record for The Race to the Clouds, he’s well placed to give the new Duke a damn good spanking.

The production version of the bike is set to be revealed at the Milan bike show this November, arriving in showrooms next year.

The original twin Streetfighter was already bonkers, I’m kinda happy to see how its successor is raising the bar. Plus, how nice of them to make a Panigale without fairings, since everyone (and especially insurance companies) knows the most dangerous part you can put on a bike are fairings.

I really hope those winglets are here to stay. And not only because with a naked bike, the tendency for a wheelie is much much higher than on a sportsbike with similar power.

It won’t have all the HP. The engine will be tuned for torque as it should be.
