The Dodge Challenger Hellcat Is About To Get A New Set Of Nostrils

Dodge is about to facelift the Challenger line-up for the 2019 model year, and the alterations will include a fantastic pair of nostrils for the Hellcat.

The FCA-owned brand dubs the new part a “dual-snorkel hood.” It’s fully-functional, and is deliberately riffing off Dodge’s muscle cars from the mid-60s and early 70s, albeit providing a “modern interpretation that looks even more sinister and provides maximum air intake to the supercharged powerplant.”

Speaking of which, we wouldn’t be surprised if the Hellcat’s 6.2-litre V8 receives a little tickle to push the power beyond its current 697bhp output.

We’ll know more about the 2019 Challenger’s changes this summer.

Meet the new Challenger. Still the same as the old Challenger.

But when is going to get a new chassis?? To be lighter and improve handling, the current one is at least 12 y/o now, out of the three, the Challeger is still the one that really looks like a muscle car and has the power to be it, a new chassis would just be perfection

As long as everything Chrysler has to do is adding more power to keep sales numbers consistent, they won’t bother with a new chassis. In 2025 we would have a Dodge Challenger with a four-digit power output but it still would handle and look exactly like it did in 2007.

Actually, the basic chassis is over 20 years old as it’s based on some old Mercedes chassis. Fun

As the owner of a 2018 Challenger SRT, I can tell you that handling isn’t bad because of the chassis. The R/T’s I’ve driven had terrible handling, but the SRT handles very well. Flat through the corners, good balance, plenty of grip, sharp turn in, great breaking feel, etc etc. It’s the cheaper models that lack all the technology to make a car go around a corner. I wouldn’t mind it being a little lighter, but I don’t at all want to see the Challenger/charger go the route of the Mustang/Camaro and turn into a sports car. And to be honest, the SRT I have now definitely handles better than the 2016 Mustang GT (with the performance pack) that I owned previously.

It’s not really made to be a good handling car. It’s a cruiser, an especially powerful one at that. It’s the most classic muscle car on sale right now.

It doesn’t need a new chassis. It’s perfect as is.

Anyone else seeing hints of Dodge Coronet in those nostrils?

Certainly, am seeing it. The Coronet, like any other legendary dodge classic, is underrated and fine as hell 😍😍
