In the land of Lamborghini, the Huracan is the ‘entry level’ money-spinner, so it was totally inevitble that a poser-friendly convertible would be along eventually. And here it is, in all its hair ruffling glory.

The Spyder will feature the same 5.2-litre V10 as the coupe, so that’s 602bhp and 413lb ft of torque. If you like your screaming V10s eco-friendly, you’ll be delighted to hear this engine gets cylinder-on-demand tech, as well as stop-start. Should simply sip fuel, then. If you’re in a planet wrecking kinda mood, however, smashing your right foot into the angry pedal will see you hit 62mph in 3.4 seconds (0.2sec slower than the coupe), with 0-124mph taking just 10.2 seconds. Find a strip of tarmac long enough and you’ll top out at a toupe-bothering 201mph.

What marks this car out as unique, in case you missed the obvious, is that it doesn’t have a roof. Most of the time, anyway. The ceiling folds away behind your head in 17 seconds at speeds up to 31mph, and features a retractable rear window should you ever feel the need to shut out the noise of that engine. You shouldn’t.

The Spyder’s a little heavier than the coupe - 1542kg versus 1422kg - but the extra porkiness isn’t too bad thanks to the Huracan’s lightweight carbonfibre chassis, which makes this car 40 per cent stiffer than the Gallardo Spyder. It also has 43/57 front to rear weight distribution, and Lamborghini claims the roof is hidden in a way that keeps the centre of gravity low.

Want one? So do we. Prices haven’t been confirmed yet, but expect a healthy premium over the coupe, making it just shy of £200,000 with a few options boxes ticked.
