A little while ago we shared some of the most beautiful cars to race in F1, and naturally you posted lots of suggestions in the comments, so here are some of the best!

1. Renault R25 - suggested by Blaž Potočnik

The striking blue and yellow-liveried R25 was raced by Renault in the 2005 season. It proved to be not only beautiful, but very successful too, shattering Ferrari’s dominance to secure the constructors’ title and drivers’ championship with Fernando Alonso.

2. Ferrari 643 - suggested by Valerio

The stunning 643 was Ferrari’s car for the second half of the 1991 season, having been introduced for the French Grand Prix. It was the team’s first ‘raised nose’ car and was powered by a V12 engine. Raced by Alain Prost and Jean Alesi, it never took a victory, but still looked damn good!

3. Brawn BGP 001 - suggested by Seb Johnson

This was Honda’s 2009 car before the Japanese manufacturer left F1, with Brawn GP rising from the ashes. The BGP 001 proved to be very successful with Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello at the wheel, particularly at the start of the season.

The team was overtaken in the development race and lost its advantage by mid-season, not helped by the fact the car was heavily flawed due to its late switch to Mercedes power following Honda’s withdrawal. But it still secured both titles (with Button taking the drivers’ crown). Sleek, elegant - thanks to the new aerodynamic rules - and unusually lacking sponsors, it was a very pretty car.

4. McLaren MP4-20 - suggested by millionsofmyles

A title challenger, the MP4-20 was arguably the quickest car of the 2005 season, and just as attractive as the R25. However, it was fragile and unreliable, meaning both McLaren and Kimi Raikkonen missed out on the titles. It was the final car to feature the iconic light grey and black West livery.

5. Jordan 198 - suggested by kevorkian2000

The bright yellow Jordan cars of the late 1990s were all spectacular to look at. They stood out on the grid and were instantly memorable, helped by the unusual nosecone sharks and – in the case of the 198 – hornets. The 1998 season got off to a tough start for Jordan but at the ninth round, things turned around for Damon Hill and Ralf Schumacher, with the former winning the chaotic Belgian Grand Prix.

6. Ferrari 156 F1 - suggested by Zalther

The iconic shark-nose version of the car was raced between 1961 and 1963, before Ferrari opted to move to a more conventional (and boring) air intake style. Greats like Phil Hill, Wolfgang von Trips and John Surtees all won with the stunning F1 machine.

7. Lotus 98T - suggested by Chrisco

The 10 Most Beautiful F1 Cars According To You

Three of the four 98T chassis built were assigned to Ayrton Senna, and the Brazilian won two races with the car in 1986. Sporting the much-loved JPS livery, it was the last Team Lotus car to race in the black and gold colours (its sister company Group Lotus is brand partner of the current Lotus F1 team, which is a different outfit).

8. Leyton House CG901 - suggested by James Nethercoat

The 10 Most Beautiful F1 Cars According To You

Designed by Adrian Newey, the CG901 was always going to be a beauty. It didn’t have much else going for it, as the car was unreliable and tricky to drive at the start of the season. A mid-season update saw Ivan Capelli finish second in France and Maurício Gugelmin score a point in Belgium, but performance continued to be inconsistent.

9. Honda RA272 - suggested by Nathan Horton

The 10 Most Beautiful F1 Cars According To You

Honda became the first Japanese team to win a F1 race with the RA272 in 1965, after Richie Ginther dominated the Mexican Grand Prix. Powered by an insane V12 engine, the car proves just how beautifully simplistic F1 machinery was in the 1960s. A very good suggestion!

10. McLaren MP4-27 - suggested by Alex Johnson

The 10 Most Beautiful F1 Cars According To You

McLaren know how to make good looking F1 cars, and in 2012, while everyone else was introducing weird stepped nose designs, the team went for a different approach. The MP4-27 was without doubt the most beautiful car of the season and, some would say, in recent F1 history too. The chrome livery certainly helped, and it was also quick – winning seven races in total.
