The 10 Best Moments From The Frantic Japanese Grand Prix

The Japanese Grand Prix is always one of the most popular rounds on the Formula 1 calendar and the Suzuka circuit hosted a pretty enjoyable race. Here were the best moments!

Nico Rosberg started from pole position, with Lewis Hamilton alongside him. But the two title rivals had contrasting getaways from the grid, with Rosberg storming into the lead and Hamilton falling back to eighth on the run to Turn 1.

2. Overtakes, overtakes everywhere

We quickly got to see some fun and frantic overtaking, particularly with Sebastian Vettel, Kimi Raikkonen and Hamilton starting out of position.

3. Kimi’s lucky escape

Running wide at the Degner corners is never good, but Raikkonen was lucky to just keep his car on the kerb and not through the gravel after a mistake in the early stages.

4. Three into one

On many occasions we’ve seen three cars going side-by-side into a corner doesn’t go, but Raikkonen, Sergio Perez and Jolyon Palmer proved it’s possible when the Iceman made two passes into the first corner.

5. Spinny spinny

Esteban Gutierrez was the first driver of the race to suffer a spin, going around at the final chicane while trying a banzai move on Carlos Sainz Jr.

One of the best moments from the race was this cool, yet sassy radio message from Nico Hulkenberg after passing Valtteri Bottas.

I think we all got pretty fed up of the constant moaning about blue flags during the race! It was mostly coming from Vettel, but Raikkonen and Verstappen also chipped in.

8. Fight for second

Verstappen vs Hamilton for second place went down to the final laps, before this controversial defensive move from the Red Bull caused Hamilton to go down the escape road. Too aggressive or within his right to do?

9. Silence for days

Rosberg won the race from Verstappen and Hamilton. The green room before the podium was SO awkward. It was so silent you could’ve heard a pin drop. That’s what happens when the title race hots up!

10. Mercedes crowned champions

First and third helped Mercedes to claim the constructors’ title with four races still to go. Congrats to the Silver Arrows, it’s clear just what a great job the team has done once again this season.

Max had the racing line … just getting into the next corner. No way that Lewis could have gone on the inside.

Lews knew that, which is why he had Mercedes drop the claim. I’m not a Lewis fan, but I respect him for owning up to it
