Tesla Has Removed Its ‘Full Self-Driving’ Mode
Tesla has dropped the ‘Full Self-Driving’ option from its cars over confusion reported by customers.
The mode is, of course, not a totally autonomous driving mode; such technology doesn’t yet exist. Its name was leading US customers to believe it was capable of driving anywhere, on any road at any time of day and in any traffic conditions. The name Autopilot has been criticised for the same reason.
For a limited time the $3000 option will still be available, but ‘off-list,’ according to Elon Musk, who was recently forced out as formal top dog at the company after a series of misleading and financially impactful tweets earlier this year. It’s understood he effectively still runs the firm anyway.
If they wanted to take advantage of Tesla’s best semi-autonomous technology, Model 3, Model S and Model X buyers had to first stump up $5000 for the Enhance Autopilot mode, making it an $8000 expense in total.
The mode will not return to options lists until it’s ready to live up to its billing, which could take some time, even if it ever happens at all.

As much as I don’t like autopilot and the idea of it; it’s sad to see the reason it’s leaving is human stupidity and laziness.
Honestly we should be making driving tests harder than make driving easier. Better to share the road with good drivers than bad drivers in semi autonomous cars
I’d add american stupidity/laziness. Pretty much the cause of the gm letting down the Jetfire (complains that the car lost power when owner didn’t fuel the tank).
The biggest problem with automation is the people that use it thinking it will do everything…even if its “semi autonomous” people still try to make it do things it cant. instead of replacing humans at the wheel, we need to improve them with better licensing processes, incentives for driving well, tests every few years or even a year, more ways to charge bad drivers, using technology to help the driver and not to make them obsolete. this alone would drastically reduce crashes. just being able to pass a test once and being fine for life isn’t good enough because people forget, they don’t pay attention, they drive drunk, etc. americans are becoming lazy and it’s only going to make the country worse if it keeps up
Yearly driving tests? Hell nah. Just imagine what a massive motherfuc king hassle it would be for both the public and the DOT centres

You must be thinking of crossovers…since suvs have at least a certain level of sport…either going fast or going offroad

Besides, based on which one you get covers one form or another of the SUV badge. For the Model X it can do both the utility and sport. If you get a Toyota Highlander, it covers the utility. Any SUV can do anything the badge says
