Suzuki Great Britain has cut £1500 off the price of the all-new Swift Sport – but only until the end of June.

The new junior hot hatch, which teams a 138bhp 1.4-litre turbocharged engine with a kerb weight of just 975kg, had initially been priced at £17,999 – a price we think is a bit too much in our review.

For the next six weeks, though, the car has been discounted to £16,499 to help tempt buyers who’ve rightly raised eyebrows at the car’s combination of punchy performance and 50mpg potential. The heavier S-Cross with the same engine can top 50mpg on a cross-country cruise, so the Swift should easily manage it.

Standard kit includes one of five metallic paint shades, climate control, sat-nav, LED headlights, Bluetooth, adaptive cruise control and a rear-view camera – mighty for a sub-tonne supermini.

Adding a turbo has boosted torque from 118lb ft at a peaky-feeling 4400rpm to 170lb ft between 2500rpm and 3500rpm. The old car did have a lot of fizzy character, but the new kid is easily the better everyday car.

Riding on Monroe shocks and new 17-inch wheels, it can crack 130mph and reach 62mph from rest in a conservative-sounding 8.1 seconds. It can also plaster a big smile onto your face, especially with a £1500 discount…

Honestly, a Fiesta ST is still much better value for money.

I hear this coming a lot

But The £18995 ST is the base ST-1 and tbh isn’t the best equipped hatch out there. I’ve seen the equipment list and honestly, the Swift demolishes it in equipment list

On top of that, the Fiesta ST-3 model(the spec you’d actually want) costs like £23500 and that’s £7k more than a Swift Sport,
And sure it’s much better and sure it has a better resale value, but it’s not gonna have the best MPG, and for a relatively new driver, it’ll be way too much to insure than a Swift Sport……

So in the long term, it’ll actually be cheaper to own a Swift Sport

They’d better have some cracking PCP deals to get buyers in these instead of the fiesta ST

The new swifts are really good cars. they’re sporty yet incredibly practical and the bucket style seats up front are a nice touch :)

I kinda like the car’s look, it reminds me of my parents Skoda Fabia 2
