Someone Made A Diesel VW Golf Into A W12-650 Concept Replica

One intrepid Golf owner turned their car into a replica of the bonkers W12-650 concept, using a 1.9 TDI model as a base...

Remember the VW Golf W12-650 concept? Cooked up for the 2007 Worthersee Treffen, it was a glorious mish-mash of parts from across the VW Group. The mad recipe included a mid-mounted, 641bhp bi-turbo W12 borrowed from the Bentley Continental GT, the rear axle from a Lamborghini and the front brakes from an Audi RS4 - all bundled together in a heavily modified Golf platform.

The classifieds spot you see here is… not a W12-650. But if you squint, it does sort of look like one - we have wide arches, a radically altered rear bumper and massive side air intakes. Which feed nothing.

The engine’s still very much in the front, and it’s - there’s no easy way to say this - a 1.9-litre TDI with all of 103bhp to its name when it left the factory. This one apparently makes 170bhp, presumably via a hefty remap, but even so - performance will be rather a long way off the real thing.

Despite having some pretty radical work done to the body, the eBay advert (note: the listing has since ended) for this car is lacking any real detail. We don’t know exactly what’s been done to it other than what we can see - it merely states that the car has “loads off [sic] mods.” Helpful.

We are told it has a year’s MOT though, and that it has 125,000 miles on the clock.

The bodywork alone couldn’t have been a cheap job, and that’s reflected in the price - it’ll set you back £4200. We’re thinking it might be hard to find a buyer willing to stump that up…

I love how it’s already got an extreme widebody kit, but still isn’t as wide as the original car xD

Throw 3/4k at the engine/gearbox you could get to roughly 300bhp which will help. But yes it’s a shame there’s not a proper engine to back up the look they were trying to go for.

I have a 1.9 TDI MK5 which were about 105 bhp on the tin, closer to 115 IRL. The 168hp TDIs were 2.0 and had more torque than an R32! Presumably this ones HP can be linked to its ‘mods’.
