Say Hello To The Lightly Tweaked Lexus RC

Lexus' coupe has been given a refresh, and there's a new version of the V8-powered RC F on the way too
Say Hello To The Lightly Tweaked Lexus RC

With half the motoring world still busy swooning over the LC, it’s easy to forget about Lexus’ other coupe, the equally striking RC. And now, there’s a new-ish version.

It’s been lightly facelifted, with the updated version due to make its public debut at the Paris Motor Show in October.

It’s a typically modern (read: extremely subtle) styling refresh, with the most notable changes being at the front. There’s a new bumper with relocated intakes plus new headlights with integrated daytime running lights. It’s the same story at the rear, with new clusters at vents pushed to the edge of the bumper. The mesh structure of the huge trapezoidal grille has been changed too. The idea of all of this? To make the RC look a little more like the LC.

There have also been some minor suspension tweaks and aero tweaks, while the 2.0-litre engine option now enjoys better throttle response.

The interior changes are just as subtle, with the most noticeable being a new analogue clock, pinched from the LC. Plus ‘Mustard’ and ‘Ochre’ trim colour options, the latter also taken from the LC. We’re sensing a theme here. For the outside meanwhile, there are now 11 different hues to pick from.

Fan of high-revving V8 shenanigans? Panic not - a refreshed RC F has been spotted undergoing testing, and its reveal should closely follow the standard RC’s.

Quite a few people nowadays hate the styling of Lexus’ current range, however, in my opinion they make some of the most exciting and crazy looking cars and I’m so glad that despite all the hate on Lexus’ over-sized front grilles, they’ve carried over the trend to give their cars originality and have somehow managed to make it work. They look like concept cars and as if they’re doing 200mph idling. Being a Japanese manufacturer, I’m delighted to see no use of undersizing engines in the RC-F with its good old-fashion V8, unlike the M3 and the M4 which have sadly lost the battle to undersizing and turbocharging. This makes it seem as a real sports car. A large V8, tons of equipment and crazy styling: what more could you wish for?

Wouldn’t call it a sports car. It’s more of a Big brutish japense muscle car

A bit like how the 300Z and the Supra. Except this has a decent interior and can turn unlike it’s American counterparts

I would not call what the M4 does downsizing. Also it easily overpowers the big old fashion V8 easily. But you are generally right with most your points. Still this car is an interesting proposition. Like Lexus did not know who to market it to. Their traditional middle age + customer with some money, or young people with the outlandish look. Thing is, the older generation might find the looks harder to swallow, while younger people may not be impressed by their butter smooth V8s other qualities. Still, a quality product that reminds us of JDM glory period.

I misread the title. I thought Lexus made this car lighter. I really hope the updated RC F will shed some weight. Lexus really needs to step up their game if they want people’s attention to this car.

People’s attention won’t go to the RC just because it’s lighter. You entirely missed the point of the car. It’s not designed to be a track car or anything similar, it’s designed to be a powerful grand tourer. Nobody cares about weight: if you won’t complain about the weight of a F-Type or something similar, then why would you care about the weight of the RC F
