Why the Jester Classic is a disgrace to GTA Online

Introduction / why this is a big deal

So the Jester Classic is finally being added to GTA Online after years of demand from the car comunity and fans alike and THIS is what we get? It’s like waiting a year for a firework to go off only for it to be a dud. So what exactly makes it so disappointing?

The model is riddled with errors, corner cutting and laziness

The model is ugly (particularly the back thanks to the number plate placement and rear light design) and is filled with issues, for example the rear brake light is glitched and doesn’t follow the trunk lid when it is opened and instead just hovers in place, one of the headlights doesn’t even have glass and the overall detail isn’t as good as it could’ve been, the hideous exhausts also have really low quality textures, looking more at home on a PS2 game rather than a PS4 game. The rear lights are also pretty much just textures which leaves the rear end looking very flat and lacking depth, even though tinting the windows also tints the rear lights which somewhat hides them but it’s still annoying. Even the engine bay is wrong, resembling an RB26DETT more than a 2jz.

The interior choice also sucks

It has almost no customisation for what it is

The Jester, despite being a Supra has a laughably low amount of customisation, the front bumpers all look too similar and it doesn’t even feature a proper Supra style wing ffs. You’re very limited in your options, this is very likely because of how rushed the car seems. Worse still, you can’t even change the ugly exhausts to a big fat single exit.

It's in the Sports Classics class

Yes, the Jester Classic is seriously in Sports Cassics, why? God knows. Not only is this insulting but it’s also really off-putting, I mean, does a Toyota Supra really look at home here? This also means it can’t compete against the Elegy Retro Custom in any races.

The performance is ruined by the new handling flags introduced with the latest update

So if you don’t know already Rockstar seem to be testing new handling for cars, possibly for the next GTA game and every car in the new update has them. In a nutshell, they basically work to counter what people call ‘kurb boosting’ where you can increase your engine revs by hitting the kurb, because this no longer happens on the new vehicles they aren’t competitive at all in any racing scenario, particularly in the city which is also where 90% of freemode driving is done. (The handling flags also change stuff to do with gearing to make shifts either too late or too early) Down below is an excellent video by Broughy1322 explaining the new handling flags in further detail.

Rockstar can do so much better

Back in December 2016, Rockstar released this gem, the Elegy Retro Custom which has a very nicely made model with no issues AND features great customisation. This car is probably the best car we’ve ever had and it’s just sad to see we’ll probaby never have anything like it ever again. It is also still a very usable car in races to this day.

Thankfully, the communtiy has made mods for the Jester Classic which fix most of the issues it has

Below is a mod which fixes most of the models issues and looking at it honestly depresses me, just seeing what could’ve been. Too bad the official one will never look this good.

Final word

All in all, this car is such wasted potential it’s actually depressing, especially seeing how much better it COULD have looked if they’d just put a bit more effort in. Hopefully they’ll realise this and make a Benny’s version which fixes the issues and puts it into the Sports Class along with the Elegy Retro but I don’t think that’ll happen because R* don’t seem to care about Benny’s cars anymore. Hopefully i’ll be proved wrong.
