If you’re heading anywhere near Berlin in the next couple of months, you need to add this new Porsche exhibition to your to-do list.

Named the ‘70 Years of the Porsche Sports Car’ exhibition (maybe it sounds catchier in German?), it’s a pop-up installation split into 10 sections offering different insights into the development of Porsche’s cars over the last seven decades.

A certain Walter Rohrl was joined at the opening ceremony last week by a German actor called Richy Muller, the star of detective drama Tatort. No prizes for guessing which of them you’d speak to first, eh?

The exhibition starts with a 356 ‘No.1’ Roadster before jumping into the future with a Mission E concept. The one millionth 911 in Irish Green is there too, following its world tour last year.

There’s a section on reinvention, mainly featuring the Boxster; a reinvented Porsche roadster that saved the company from going bankrupt. Porsche has inserted a section for its current models and advertisements to go with them, but the Motor Sport section puts it in the shade.

Its star will be the legendary Pink Pig itself, the unique 917/20 decorated in a livery divided with dotted lines into the classic spread of pork meat cuts. It combined elements of traditional long-tail and short-tail design to create massive speed and unusual looks. Despite being totally untested it was the fastest car in the 1971 Le Mans qualifying session, before retiring from the race after a crash.

Sports Cars Today is another area of the exhibition, with a focus on hybridisation courtesy of the (deep breath) Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo. There’s an international flavour in the Sports Cars Across the World section, while a finale called 70 Years of Passion is dedicated to Porsche’s own employees.

Admission is free, it’s open right now from 10am to 6pm every day, and you can find it at the Drive Volkswagen Group Forum on Unter den Linden in central Berlin, just opposite Google’s German headquarters.

Am I the only one who got overly excited after catching the words “Porsche” and “Pop-Up” in the title?

I went past it last week.
Couldn’t check it out due to my trip to Berlin being a school event.
Now I’m slightly mad.

I really love that 1,000,000 edition 911. They should have made it into a production special edition.
