No matter what industry you’re in, retro sells. Film studios constantly rehash famous old movies; fashion is always harking back to clothing trends time rightly forgot; and car manufacturers revive model names in a desperate attempt to be cool again - here’s looking at you, Fiat 500.

Often it feels like a forced marketing ploy, but there’s something to be said for a simple, well-executed nod to the past, and that’s exactly what we’ve got with Dodge’s new ‘Plum Crazy’ purple paint option for 2016 Challenger and Charger models.

The Plum Crazy paint job was originally introduced in 1970, and is considered one of the most iconic hues from an iconic era of muscle cars. Dodge reckons demand for the ‘nostalgic’ paint is higher than ever right now, thanks largely to its bonkers Hellcat models getting people excited about its products.

You don’t have to drop your cash on one of Dodge’s 697bhp Hellcat models to paint your ride purple though, as it’s available on all 2016 Challenger and Charger models. Plum Crazy will open for order in September, with production beginning in November.
