Open The Champagne, Ron: 2015 Saw Record Sales For McLaren

It really hasn’t been the best year for McLaren’s Formula 1 team, but proceedings seem a little more rosy for the brand’s supercar outfit. McLaren Automotive has just revealed that 2015 was another record sales year for the company, with a total of 1654 cars shifted. Doesn’t sound much, but it’s a healthy innings in the supercar world - to give some context, the much more established Lamborghini managed around 3000 in around the same period.

It’s all down to what McLaren describes as “strong global demand”, fuelled by new models like the 570S and 675LT, and it’s led to a second shift being added to Woking’s production facility. That means a 40 per cent increase in staff, or in other words, 250 new jobs. That’s good news for people working or hoping to enter in the UK motoring industry, since the McLaren Technology Centre is one of the coolest workplaces in the entire country. After all, it does look like a flipping Bond villain’s lair from the outside.

As for next year, there are no particular sales targets, but Jolyon Nash - McLaren’s executive director of sales and marketing - has previously stated that the “ambition” for 2016 is to sell 3000 cars, growing to 4000 in 2017. After reaching that point, the company expects sales to hold steady.

Ferrari used to have a trend that when the F1 team was doing well, the road cars were a bit shi*ty, and when the road cars were good, the race cars were slow.. Maybe McLaren is picking up that trend? :P

I actually first heard that about McLaren, so yes! That’s why I wasn’t happy to hear they were working on a new car for the public a few years ago and now look at the F1 team :(

They haven’t sold many 650s and 570s then. 1000 of those are the 675’s.

That’s thanks to a cleaning business my mom works in ;) Mclaren painters aren’t too good at keeping their workplace tidy, nor overworking themselves.
