My WRC Dream Team

My WRC Dream Team - Rally

If you were a WRC team manager who would you employ to be your three drivers? This got me thinking as I think there are a lot of drivers out there who deserve a shot in a full Works seat but have never had the opportunity. Below are the three drivers I would employ and why.

1. Paolo Andreucci

My WRC Dream Team - Rally

I have an awful lot of praise for Paolo and his achievements and it always pains me that he never got a shot at being in a Works Car as he could of done some magic. Most people have never heard of Andreucci but he is nothing short of an Italian Rally Hero, winning the Italian Rally Championship a record 9 times. Paolo also has the possibility of winning his 10th title this year in his Peugeot 208 T16. Most recently he won the 2017 edition of the Rallye Sanremo beating Hyundai Works driver Hayden Paddon by over 30 seconds. A few years ago Peugeot gave him a drive in the WRC2 round at Rally Italia as a birthday present and proceeded to lead beating the likes of Lappi but picked up a puncture and a damaged radiator but still manages to finish 2nd in class and 8th overall!

2. Jari Matti Latvala

My WRC Dream Team - Rally

My honest opinion is that Jari is the best driver of the current 2017 lineup, a second place in Monte Carlo and a Win in Sweden in a brand new car clearly show the raw talent Jari has. Jari is also probably the most proud of the sports history out of the current flock of drivers, sadly a lot of the drivers have little interest in the sport. It’s no secret that Jari idiolises Henri Toivonen and owns some of the most iconic Rally cars like his Group 4 Quattro, MK2 Escort and Toyota Celica to name a few. A brutally fast and sometimes too fast but that’s what makes Jari the character he is, and that’s why I would hire him.

3. Craig Breen

My WRC Dream Team - Rally

So I have the experienced master and a driver at the top of his game so we need a young gun and who is better than Irishman Craig Breen. Craig has had a very tough career to date after the death of his right hand man, Gareth Roberts after a terrible crash on the Targa Florio. There dream was to get to the WRC and Craig has made it. His emotional reaction to his Podium finish on last years Rally Finland says it all. Craig is a brilliant driver and certainly one to watch for the future.
