Forgotten JDM cars: The Nissan MID4 Concept

WARNING!: My writing will make your eyes bleed I will improve it overtime so please bear with me.

I love concept cars mainly because they are innovative and the Nissan MID4 is definitely one of them.

Which is why I want to write about this car, but what is the MID4 exactly? Well keep reading.

When it comes to japanese supercars a lot of people mention the GT-R, the LFA and the NSX offering something different than the usual european supercars but back in the 80’s that wasn’t the case and Nissan had the idea of making a supercar before any other japanese manufacter, and so the MID4 was born.

It debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1985, the MID4 concept was desinged to compete with cars such as Ferrari and Porsche. But it never got the chance to do so Nissan killed the project in 1987 after the introduction of the MID4 II.

The 1987 model made 325HP and 282 lb-ft of torque thanks to a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 developed specifically for this car, named the VG30DETT.

The MID4 II got a fully independent double-wishbone suspension up front and multilink strut system in the rear. A new four-wheel steering (HICAS) still under development by Nissan at the time was added to the first and second concepts.

Nissan sourced an AWD system from Europe with a 33/67 rear wheel bias as well to give the car a rear drive feel while still getting the benefit of power to the front wheels.

The MID4 II was revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Unfortunately this car was never made due to high production cost, but the technology of the MID4 made it’s way onto other Nissan products.

For example.

The VG30DETT was used the 300ZX.
The HICAS rear wheel steering was further developed and used in skylines and silvias.

And that’s all i have thanks for reading!.
