Ruben's GSR Evo

Ruben's GSR Evo - Mitsubishi Lancer EVO Forum

I might have already posted this here, but I haven’t posted the story. It’s a long story, but I will cut the crap.
My mate Ruben bought an EVO GSR a few months ago and told his flatmate that it costed him $1,000 and that it has 590HP. Then he told me it cost him $2,000, but now he tells me he bought it for $2,500.

A week ago I went with him to a car meet, and he brought one of his mates along. I was talking to a bunch of guys about the GSR and then Ruben’s friend said it was a good car for “$6,000”.
A few years ago, Ruben had a mate who also owned a GSR that they had been working on. They got into sh!t and now they are no longer friends. Recently I came across a post on FB where Ruben tells yet another friend that this is the car that they worked on years ago, while Ruben still maintains that it belonged to a mechanic who died.

Apparently, this car had a recent rebuild and was running a tonne of mods and was certified - that’s what I was told.
Yesterday I went over to help him with an oil-change. This car rides solid like mine, and is lowered, so I thought it also has coilovers, but I went under the car to check a rattling noise and saw that the rear suspension looked stock. When I had a look at the front suspension, they were also stock but it had super low springs all round. He said it’s been certified for the suspension and motor etc, so I had a look around but couldn’t find the certification plate (should look like the silver plate on the firewall).
Not looking so good for $6,000.

I dropped the oil out of the motor and it was black - so much for a new motor. Ruben insisted it was “rebuilt with no paperwork” and that this “new motor needs to be run-in”. But from the dirt and baked-on oil around the block, it really doesn’t look rebuilt to me. Maybe a few years ago. Overall, it seems the only mods are the fart-can, a blow-off-valve and lowering springs.

Uncertified, almost-stock, no dyno-sheets.
The intake and exhaust manifolds look old and worn, and the radiator is the original factory one despite him saying they are aftermarket.

There is a massive dent in one door, the exhaust is loose, the alarm isn’t wired properly and the whole car creaks and rattles.
What a nice buy for $6,000.
