4 Racing games for low end PCs

Are you a hardcore sim or arcade racer, but you can’t play famous titles such as Assetto Corsa, Project Cars etc. , because of your low end pc? Here are some racing games that your PC configuration might cope with.

Note: I do not own any of the videos below.

Simraceway

Simraceway is a free online racing simulator. It has an extremely wide amount of tracks from all around the world to race on. It also has a great variety of cars to drive. From small FWD hatchbacks, go-carts and classics to single seaters and modern supercars. But wait, there’s more. Simraceway also has very realistic physics and nice graphics. It does run rather well well on low end PCs like mine (2.8Ghz Dual core, 3GB ram, 2GB Video memory). The blokes who make the game even developed their own motion controll racing wheel (the SRW-S1). So if you haven’t tried it already give it a shot and download it, it’s free after all.

Pros: Many cars and tracks, realistic handling, nice graphics

Cons: You do get a free car or 2 in the beginning, but in general you buy cars with real money

Live for Speed

Live for speed is another online racing sim. If you are looking for realism then LFS is the game for you. It’s one of the most realistic racing sims out there and it’s going to get even better, because devs keep updating the game and making it even better. The thing is, LFS is developed by a team of only 4 people, so updates don’t really come out that often, but when they do, they are epic. You might be thinking right now, that since this game is so realistic and it’s only developed by 4 people, it must have a downside. And it does actually and there’s a few of them. You get a small selection of cars (20 cars) and a miserable selection of tracks (just 7). Another thing is that the cars in LFS aren’t real. They may be based of real models but they are fictional. And now you might be thinking something else - if LFS has only 20 cars and 7 tracks it probably becomes boring really quick. Well, that might be your wrongest thought. The Live for Speed community is huge! It’s a serious sim in which in online races you won’t find 12 year old kids running in the back of your car on each corner. LFS is also one of the most famous games for drifting because of it’s realism. Yes, it only has 7 tracks but each track has more than 1 layout so you won’t get bored that quick. And the fictional cars? Worry not, LFS has a huge modding community so you can always download mods which replace the default cars with real ones. If you want to try it out you can download the demo version of the game which contains 3 cars and 1 track.

Pros: Extremely realistic, huge community

Cons: Low amount of tracks and cars

Dolphinity racer

Now, if you have a really low end PC, this game might get you interested. It is another racing simulator, although not that realistic, buy hey, it’s free! The game it self is not actually bad. It’s not a game like The Crew or Project Cars which you’ll spend hours playing but it’s a good time waster. Contentwise it really lacks it. The game only comes with 2 cars and 1 track, but just like Live for Speed it has a modding community (although not that big) that does the job.

Pros: Free

Cons: Very small community, not very realistic

The final game on the list isn’t a simulator, at least on paper. SLRR is an open world racing game that isn’t actually famous for the racing, but for the building (which is the interesting part of the game, cause the driving actually sucks LOL). It’s probably one of the most realistic games in terms of building a car. You can assemble and disassemble your car’s engine, suspension, interior and body work. Customize it, upgrade it and tune it. Again like in Live for Speed the cars are fictional, but this is the game with the biggest modding community on this list. Have you always wanted to LS swap an RX-7 (or 13B swap a Camaro)? Well, in this game you can do it. Make a dragster, a drift car, turbocharge the hell out of your 2JZ etc. To see what I’m talking about, drop an eye on the video below.

Pros: Huge modding community, open world, realistic damage

Cons: Bad handling physics, very unstable (the default game without any mods sometimes crashes and sometimes with mods it gets unbearable)

Thanks for reading and please excuse me for my spelling and punctuation mistakes. : - )

Driven to Drive 1

This is a great article! My surface pro 3 is in the middle in terms of performance, so these games should be fun to try out! Can you post a link to download Street legal racing redline?

No rFactor? This is probably the best game for weak pc’s because of huge modding community that develops a lot of mod.If you don’t know what is rFactor - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0R9G9znYF0

The only problem with Simraceway is that AFAIK, the downloads are still screwed.

That and I think most of it is slightly screwed right now. ;c

Richard Burns Rally would be my favorite… Huge community, lots of fun, great physics. Run on peanuts instead of processors…
