Muffler/resonator delete

Thinking about removing the muffler on my stock 2004 e46 325ti because I want to be that person. I’d replace it with a straight pipe that is supposed to minimize exhaust drone, hopefully eventually go full straight pipe. Has anyone done this before? Is it too loud? Or does it give a noticeable, tasteful volume boost?

None of them give an accurate account of the sound difference though. Just how microphones and compression behave

Not a Beamer guy just a lurker, does it have an axle back section you can unbolt and remove? If so it shouldn’t take long if you have the appropriate tools.

I don’t think it will be terribly difficult, I had a chevy Blazer that I worked on a bunch before (and totaled it lmao). I just wonder if I should

I’ve only deleted the muffler and I have to say I’m quite impressed with the results. It’s kind of loud and not obnoxiously loud. Sounds plenty good. I even have that beloved rasp when letting go of the gas. On the highway there is a drone and since I’ve never really been a loud type of guy it’s taking some time to get used to. But I don’t really mind 90% of the time as I have music. I have a few tunnels I like to go thru and oh boy does it sound really well. Uploading a video soon

Thank you very much! Did you cut anything? And did you replace it with a specialized pipe or just tubing? Thanks!

I deleted my muffler, sounds good. No drone. The only time you get a drone is when you remove your cats

I have a drone at 3k on the highway. Maybe it’s cause I have a 3.0. I only did a muffler delete

Just did a muffler and resonator delete in my friend’s 2004 325ci. From outside the car sounds pretty good. It isn’t obnoxiously loud and actually I think that it could be louder. I’ll see if I can get him to comment to get his opinion.

Did you replace the muffler with a pipe or a specialized pipe? Or just Sawzall’d it off?

Just did my resonator delete a few days ago. It sounds quite a bit better than before but it’s not annoyingly loud. I wish it was a little bit louder but I’ll figure it out. I pretty much have a straight pipe after the cat and I’m sure you’ll really enjoy it. And I only got it done for $50.

Do you get any drone on the highway? That’s what I’m really worried about.

Just on the comments about removing the back part unfortunately from the cat back over to the box it’s one complete pipe no connections (found this out the hard way) had to replace the gaskets on mine and found this out I want to do the muffler delete but with me doing shifts and having to be up and leaving the house at 6am I can’t have too much of a drone
