Mx5 insurance prices UK
I’m still less than 2 years away but I was wondering has anyone in the uk got a mk1 mx5 for their first car? If so how much does it cost for insurance? Also would a non import be much cheaper (I’m assuming so)?

It all depends on your budget. I’m poor, so I had to drive around in a 2000 Ford Fiesta for a few years, at about £1000 for the first year (2014) to about £650 up until last summer, just to wait for the prices to drop. Once I turned 21, I saved up about £1500 for the car and got a quote from Aviva for a years 3rd party at about £1100. It’s different for everyone, but this is just my experience.
There’s no harm in getting a few quotes online just to get a good idea, but prices tend to fluctuate alot. So in conclusion, I would reccomend Aviva as they got me the best deal by far, but be prepared to wait a few years as UK insurance is a B*tch.
Oh, and this is with an imported Eunos, which is probably about 10% more to insure, so you would be correct. If you’ve got any questions, please ask! :)
Thanks dude, much appreciated and btw nice mx5!
I never got an mx5 as my first car. But i did look at one and ran some quotes. Got about 1.5k from admiral/elephant i believe.
Ended up getting a swift for my first car which ended up costing about £950 i think. Im 21 now and have my mx5 (an eunos import).
insured for about £370 i think.
Insurance is ass in the uk so you just gotta do a few quotes and hope for the best. Do like Confused, Compare the market and then do some private/companies not on price comparison such as Direct Line.
Also once turning 21 adrian flux is very good if you plan on modifying. Its the same price for me at 21 to insure a modified (turbo, exhaust, brakes etc) through AF than it is to insure a stock vehicle through normal companies
Also as a side note i know its being a killjoy, but i always take the stance (even after not long ago being in your position) that an mx5 is not a good first car.
You will have learnt to pass your test not learnt how to drive there is a difference, get a couple of years of driving experience under your belt, build up your no claims and learn how to drive in a car that is safe and wont punish you really hard when you make a mistake
My first car was a 1999 punto on £3500 a year to insure 12 cars later I’m on my mx5 😅 try elephant they was good to insure with but mainly depends on your postcode
Holy sh!t £3500 a year for a punto?
I bought mine with the intention of it being my first car 1991 NA6. Ive been quoted upwards of £5000 every time i got a quote. even from adrian flux (best insurance provider for modified or classic cars). So I bought an EP2 Civic Sport, I’ve been quoted £1,122 for that which is much better.
I got one as first car 3500 fully comp 10000miles a year 1.6 got it at 21 when i passed 22 now and they have said at the end this year it will be about 1400 a year
