Now's Your Rare Chance To Own A Limited Edition Convertible Ferrari

The LaFerrari Spider had already sold out even before being revealed to the public, so we scanned the classifieds for alternatives and uncovered a rare breed with a Top Gear connection!

The LaFerrari Spider is yet another limited-edition open-top Ferrari that sold out before the Italians even released any details. But if that makes you want to smash your (empty) wallet right through your own face in frustration, fear not: we’re here to help.

If you like your Prancing Horses rare, red and with a token Top Gear connection, check out this 575 Superamerica. Just 559 were built overall – compared to 499 LaFerraris and probably the same number of LaFerrari Spiders. That’s the scarcity box ticked, then, and the Rosso Corsa paint on this right-hand-drive car is in predictably perfect condition.

The 575M, on which the Superamerica is based, was the first Ferrari to use the semi-auto ‘electrohydraulic manual’ flappy-paddle gearbox as part of its upgrades from the earlier 550. In this case it was linked to a 5.75-litre V12 with a handsome 533bhp – raised from the hard-top 575M’s 515bhp and good for 199mph. At the time, it was the fastest Berlinetta ever.

Then there’s technology that was way ahead of its time. The roof panel, which folds even faster than the England football team, is made of carbonfibre and electrochromatic glass. Its darkness can be adjusted from inside the cabin, from normal sunroof territory down to just one per cent light transmittance. No, we don’t really see the point either, but it’s still pretty cool.

Now here’s the twist. This one was previously owned by Chris Evans, the long-standing Ferrari collector and everyone’s least favourite Top Gear presenter since Noel Edmonds.

The price for all this? Hofmann’s in Henley on Thames outside London hasn’t stated that, but it at least offers finance options. If it can sort us a zero per cent deal over the next 1000 years, we’ll think about it.

Grand Tour should buy it and drop it like a caravan.

The price? Since it’s a used, special edition ferrari, it’s waaaaay to much!

I was hoping the TG connection would be more special, like Jeremy tested it or something…

They didn’t mention it, but I know for a fact the windscreen washer bottle is filled with Chris Evans tears.

You probably would find traces of his spit all over the interior.

I love the 575M, but it would have to be a gated shifter manual.

^Exactly what I thought when I saw the interior! That open gate gearshift is what makes a Ferrari for me.

In this case the top gear connection isn’t an advantage at all.
