It depends on your state and location I would check local laws and ask around
As long as it doesn’t affect the operation of the brakes, it shouldn’t be a problem. But all kind of stupid laws do exist all around the world.
In the UK painting the calipers and drums has no effect on the MOT as long as the brakes work and apply similar braking force (I think it’s within 10%) e.g front drivers side compared to front passenger side then it will pass. Obviously the pads and discs have to be within the legal limits, drums are different as they can’t see the shoes they can’t make any assessment on whether they need changing or not.
Just to be clear the drums are assessed solely on the braking force that they achieve.
