Gas in miata

The past owner said he used premium gasoline in his miata, since it’s almost 30 years old. Should I keep putting in premium or just go to regular?

Do you have biofuel added to your fuel? (Germany has 10% Ethanol which kills the rubber)
If not get regular, if so get premium

If the engine is designed for regular. Premium is just a waste of money

Oh my holy not true! Premium is NOT what you should put in an MX5 unless its turbo’d or the timing has been advanced to the point of pinging on 89!

NA Miatas were designed to run just fine on regular grade fuel. The only real benefit of running premium is knock resistance. In the case of the Miata, unless it has a turbo or supercharger, there really isn’t any advantage to running premium. I’d save yourself some money at the pump and put regular in it. Works fine for my ‘95.

If it’s got the original timing setup, premium grade won’t be any better as such, but the detergants in some premium higher octane fuels can help to keep the engine clean.

Atleast the 1.6L NB is designed to run optimal on 96 ron fuel, which is actually above premium (95 ron) fuel, but should run fine on 91 (regular) due to an anti-knock sensor. So atleast NB’s sure do benefit from better fuel. http://prntscr.com/e5rdj1

My NA6 was fed Shell V-Power.

Cheapo fuel works but I definitely noticed a difference.
