If you have the cash, McLaren Special Operations (MSO) can cook up pretty much whatever you want. In recent months we’ve seen a fuchsia 720S, a pair of matching 675LTs made for a single buyer, and now this: the 720S Dubai.

It’s another one-off, finished in satin Zenith Black paint with a bucket-load of gold accents. There are gold wheels, a (no doubt McLaren F1-inspired) 24-carat gold heatshield for the engine, smatterings of gold in the cabin, and our favourite bit, gold lettering on the wing.

Translated, the Arabic lettering reads: “Life is measured in achievement, not in years alone,” words once uttered by none other than McLaren’s founder, Bruce McLaren. Not only that, but the lettering has been shaped to mimic the skyline of Dubai. Neat.

The personalisation wouldn’t have come cheap, as McLaren says it created an extra 120 hours of work on top of the production process. The lettered rear wing took 30 hours to do on its own.

Mechanically, it’s identical to a regular 720S. That means 710bhp (but possibly a tad more) from a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, making 0-62mph possible in 2.9 seconds, and perhaps more impressively, 0-124mph in 7.8 seconds.

The car is on display now at the Dubai Motor Show.

I normally hate Gold on cars, but this is done extremely tastefully. If anyone, McLaren can apply gold properly

I think on something like this it’s allowed. And on the wheels of a WR Blue Subaru WRX STIs…

Impressive. This is one of the all to rate tastefully implemented customisations I have seen this far. It’s somewhat like a modern reinterpretation of Art Deco, very interesting
