Mercedes Teases The New G-Class That We've Already Seen

A batch of leaked photos hasn't stopped Mercedes teasing its new G-Class ahead of the Detroit debut
Mercedes Teases The New G-Class That We've Already Seen

Ladies and gentlemen, today we bring you the latest teaser for the new Mercedes G-Class. You know - the car that was effectively revealed in full via an image leak last week.

So we don’t really learn anything new from this snowy teaser, but at least we won’t have to wait long until we have the juicy details to go along with pictures we’ve all already seen.

Mercedes Teases The New G-Class That We've Already Seen

The full reveal will be on 15 January at the Detroit Auto Show, and while the evolutionary styling approach has resulted in a car the at looks much the same as the outgoing one, everything underneath is expected to change.

It’ll sit on a heavily modified version of the old vehicle’s ladder frame chassis, be stuffed with S-Class tech, and have an all-new front suspension setup. But don’t worry, it’ll still be able to handle the rough stuff with ease, thanks to plenty of ground clearance and a trio of locking differentials among other things.

Roll on 15 January…

I’m just waiting for the offroad Professional version with the inline six diesel.

Hopefully, the Professional will continue to be based on the W461 or W463, as the new version has independent front suspension, instead of the live axle.

They’re ‘teasing’ us because we all know that hardly any G-Classes are going to be used as shown.

Bit more to it than that - frame has been heavily revised, shell is all-new plus lighter and more rigid, interior’s new etc

But what if the image was leaked on purpose and the G Class won’t look anything like that?

I’m not sure how Mercedes consumers will respond to the design. I’m not talking about the changes, I’m talking about the lack of changes. See Jeep can do it with the Wrangler because many of their consumers yearn for the feeling of yesteryear, while Mercedes consumers want cutting edge and ground breaking designs so that everyone knows just how much money they have. None of these consumers want a new product that looks like the old product and I believe that this could open a door for other brands to overtake the full size luxury SUV market, which as we all know, is still a very lucrative market.
