Mercedes F1's Amazing 1.73sec Pit Stop In Hungary Was Record-Breaking (Sort Of)

Mercedes claims that Nico Rosberg’s pit stop during the Hungarian Grand Prix was a new Formula 1 record, with the team's own data suggesting all four tyres were changed in a staggering 1.73 seconds

There’s more to this than you might think. F1’s own data registered the stop at a more modest - but still impressive - 2.15 seconds, beating Williams by just 0.01 seconds to the DHL Fastest Lap Award for the Hungarian GP.

Williams set a new record for a F1-recorded pit stop with a 1.92 second effort at the recent European Grand Prix in Baku, but Mercedes believes it has bettered that.

According to Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport the team’s own data states the stop took just 1.73 seconds, almost two tenths quicker than Williams. But Mercedes is likely using different points to start and stop measuring, meaning it’ll have to be an unofficial record for now (maybe we’ll see the F1 data registering a stop that quick in the near future).

Sad that Nico’s stop was 3.1 seconds because maybe he could have had the lead in turn 1
