Get an old MX5, get both a soft top and a hard top!

I dunno. I like the hard top better. Just because it gives that Targa look of a Corvette from outside when the top is down . And from the inside , i’ll accept the compromise. And I don’t really like how soft tops look with the top closed.

-cuz I’m lazy to retract it myself
-cuz I do not give fks about trunk space
-cuz I can get more hoes with the soft top
-cuz it makes the car look more expensive
-cuz I like having fun with the wind going through my hair
*just for fun

This is a really good analysis of the weaknesses of the RF. I’d like to add one more knock against the RF-its price.

Granted, as an ex-owner of an NA, I’d be the first to admit that having realistic 4-season usability in a Miata is a really awesome idea. However, the RF GT costs $50K (in Canadian dollars), which is about a $3000 premium over the soft top. That’s a lot of money for a Miata.

To me, the price tag is only half of what makes up the lack of value, though. As far as I can tell, the big draw of the RF is the ability to use it in the winter. However, if you have the space, it’s probably a better idea to invest in a beater. You won’t have to worry about the salt hitting your nice sportscar, you won’t have to worry about a lack of traction, and you might be able to get something that can better protect you in an accident.

Well in the UK, the weather is a bit more rainy so considering the moisture alone, wouldnt a hard top be a safer choice?
If you dont have high crime ratings you can sleep easy at night, but people have a habbit of slashing the soft tops in my area (call it stupidity, they completely slashed the soft top of my old suzuki swift gti which is a 500 euro car) and that 3.000 difference is maybe 2 slashings away.

I think you can always add roll bars in your car if you worry about rolling over too much, right?

It know the hardtop is better is every way. But I’ll chose the soft top because of the looks

I know I’ve had two Miata’s and two Boxster’s… but I hate soft tops… 90% of the time, they are just a pain, they are noisy, they start to leak after a decade or two. they never seal completely, they require a lot more maintenance (fabric or vinyl cleaning/protection, cleaning of the drains, protecting the seals).
A roof like the RF is the perfect compromise to me!
I can’t stand the 911 cab, but love the targa too.
