Let McLaren's Chief Test Driver Explain Why Drifting Is Important (And Fun)

The point of drifting isn’t lost on us: it looks cool and it’s entertaining, and for petrolheads, that’s all there is to it. In the world of developing cars though, it’s very important to be pushing beyond the limits, as explained here by Chris Goodwin - McLaren’s chief test driver. Oh, and he does admit right at the end - after some lovely shots of the new ‘P14’ going very sideways - that it is jolly good fun.

McLaren’s 650S replacement will be making its debut at the Geneva Motor Show, and will feature a ‘drift mode’ to make tail-out shenanigans much easier for people who aren’t Chris Goodwin.

McLaren has also revealed this week that the car will be fitted with bespoke Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres, and will be able to brake from 124mph to a standstill in 4.6 seconds and 117 metres. This puts it “almost on par with the legendary McLaren P1”. Good to know.
