Honda has made the announcement we've all been expecting - the Civic Type R will be revealed in production form at the Geneva Motor Show next month, packing a 2.0-litre turbo VTEC engine
It's Official: The Production Honda Civic Type R Will Be Revealed In Geneva

Up until now, we’ve just taken it as a given that the all-new Civic Type R will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Now though, Honda has officially announced that the wraps will be pulled off the 10th-gen Civic-based hot hatch nutter at the show.

In another confirmation that’ll surprise no one, Honda also announced that the car will be packing the firm’s “latest 2.0-litre VTEC turbo petrol engine”. In other words, it’ll be an updated version of the 306bhp four-banger found in the previous car. This time around, we can expect the power output to be even higher, potentially quite close to the 345bhp offered up by the Ford Focus RS.

It's Official: The Production Honda Civic Type R Will Be Revealed In Geneva

Having had a little poke around the cockpit of the prototype Type R at the LA Auto Show last year, it’s looking like the production car will feature three driving modes. The prototype has a comfort mode, and unnamed middle setting and a ‘+R’ mode, all of which we’re anticipating will be carried over to the car we’ll see in Geneva, along with the brilliantly mad aero.

Following the reveal, the car will go into production this summer at Honda UK’s Swindon plant. From there, it’ll be exported all over the world, and yes, that includes North America.

It’ll be revealed in Geneva on 7 March at 11.30 at Honda’s show stand.

Lookwise, the prototype looks infinetly better than the current Type R with its weird body shape.
I hope the production car will look as close to the prototype as possible

I feel like I’m the only one who likes the current Civic. It has that aerodynamic looking raindrop shape they’ve had for two generations. The new one looks good from the side, but I think they’ve added unnecessary plastics to the front and back. I also dislike the new glossy front grille.

As a former owner of a 2013 Civic SI and someone who got to drive an S2000 several times (dad owned one), I have to say, idk what the big deal is with vtec. It didn’t really throw me back in the seat or anything. It’s VERY cool to rev as high as you can with Honda engines, don’t get me wrong, but there’s just no torque to push you back. However, I’m sure this turbo version will be a different story.

The ones you saw, did they also have the three exhaust pipes ? Two big ones and one smaller red one in the middle ?
